What is the concept of Battle of the Blues?
The Duke-North Carolina rivalry invokes passion and deep-rooted feelings that have long divided basketball fans throughout the state of North Carolina and the United States. It has pitted family members, neighbors, coworkers, and even couples against one another as they experience the exhilaration of victory and the anguish of defeat. In order to give fans a way to express their school's superiority over their rivals, we have created a website that allows users to support their team by purchasing the pixels of our website with advertisements, team colors, or other images. Each purchase will cover part of a photograph of the tipoff of one of the most recent installments of the rivalry, and each pixel purchased will help to fill the meter of the team that is being supported.
How did you come up with this idea?
Being fans of the two schools has of course led to our involvement in many heated arguments about all things Duke-UNC, from basketball superiority to the intelligence and attractiveness of the respective student bodies. Being a part of the greatest rivalry in college sports has been a large part of our college lives. After seeing the Million Dollar Homepage while surfing the web, we immediately saw an opportunity to further the rivalry by making a similar page in which fans of the two schools can compete against one another in support of their teams while making some money in the process. While this clearly will not provide any solution to the eternal question of "Duke or Carolina?" in all its forms, it just might give the fans of the winning school some extra bragging rights.
What is the money going towards?
We will donate a significant portion of all proceeds to the North Carolina Food Bank in order to help those in the Triangle and the state who are less priviledged.
How can I purchase pixels from Battle of the Blues?
If you visit our buy pixels page, you will be directed to our purchasing form, which is run through PayPal (by Ebay), a trusted online payment system.
How much do pixels cost?
Individual pixels are not visible, so in order for your piece of Battle of the Blues web real-estate must be made in increments of 100 pixels. Each pixel can be purchased for the low cost of 10 cents, bringing the cost of 100 pixels to $10.
What can I do with my pixels?
Whatever you want! You are free to create whatever image you would like and send it to us, and we will place it on the website. You can submit an advertisement for your business, a message supporting your team, a shout-out to a friend, or anything else that you choose. We recommend that you pick a small-pixel font such as Dotphoria (http://baby.cute.tc/fonts.html) and write your message on a background that displays your school's colors. We will also link the image to whatever website you would like (if you do not choose a site, we will use the school's homepage as a default). Our only rules are that you may not submit any copyrighted material (that you do not own the copyright to) or any profane/obscene messages.
When will my image appear?
When you submit your image, it will show up immediately on the site and your account will be charged. However, if your image is inappropriate or violates any copyright laws we will remove your ad and refund your money.
Do you represent the Duke or North Carolina basketball programs?
We are not in any way affiliated with the athletic programs or basketball teams of these two Universities. We are simply supporters of the greatest rivalry in college sports and good basketball in general. We encourage you to support both schools by visiting their official websites at GoDuke.com and TarHeelBlue.com and in any other way you can. They are two of the greatest college basketball programs in the country, and deserve your attention, no matter how you feel about them.
What do I do if I experience problems with the website?
Feel free to contact us at support@battleoftheblues.com with any questions or comments you might have. We will attempt to provide prompt customer support and respond to your e-mails in as timely a manner as possible.
